DNS Leak Test
A DNS leak happens when domain lookups leave your VPN and hit your ISP’s resolver. InstantIPCheck asks unique test names so we can see which resolver actually arrived.
Why DNS leaks matter
Encrypted traffic hides page contents from the ISP. DNS still names every host you contact unless those queries go through the VPN’s resolver. A DNS leak restores a list of sites to whoever operates the resolver.
How this DNS leak test works
The homepage DNS leak test generates fresh names and records which resolver asked for them. Each card shows the resolver IP, ISP and country. If that country or ISP is your home network while the public IP is a VPN, you have a DNS leak.
How to fix a DNS leak
Enable the VPN’s DNS or “block LAN DNS” setting, set the OS to the VPN’s resolvers, and disable IPv6 if it bypasses the tunnel. Re-run the DNS leak test until the resolvers match the VPN, not the ISP.
